FAQ's on Rebranding the Choir

The Bel Canto Singers of Daytona will open their 2026-2027 season as the Halifax Master Chorale featuring the Bel Canto Chamber Singers.

Why are you changing your name?

Our choir has evolved and we are outgrowing the current name. ‘Bel Canto’ is a certain style of operatic singing, however our group sings multiple styles of music. We currently perform in Daytona Beach but also in surrounding communities, and our members come from many cities from Palm Coast to Port Orange. So we have selected a new name that better reflects our group’s regional activities. We plan to keep the Bel Canto name for the chamber singers to honor Bel Canto’s 50+ year history and maintain continuity with the old brand.

How was the new name selected?

In Florida, "Halifax" primarily refers to the Halifax River, a 25-mile saltwater river/estuary in Volusia County that is part of the Intracoastal Waterway. It also commonly identifies the surrounding "Halifax area" (centered on Daytona Beach), specifically the region encompassing Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Daytona Beach Shores, and Port Orange. This geography is more reflective of who we are and where we perform. Calling ourselves a ‘master chorale’ is consistent with choral groups in other cities and signifies a large, auditioned singing group.

What does your new logo symbolize?

Our new logo was inspired by the Halifax River and the bridge that connects our community, reflecting both our heritage and vision for the future. While our look is evolving, our mission remains the same: bringing people together through the power of music.

How does this fit with the future vision for the choir?

Going forward, we envision growing the choir to a larger group of 60-100 members. We may also add additional small groups, for example a women’s chorus, and add a small orchestra that would perform with us at concerts. The ‘master chorale’ name gives us room to grow as it encompasses this larger, more expansive vision.

Will you have a new web address?

Yes! Our new website is SingHalifax.org. This conveys the energy and purpose of the group, plus it's short and easy to remember. People going to the old belcantodaytona site are now automatically redirected to the new web location.

Sing With Us!

We invite experienced singers to join the Halifax Master Chorale. Membership is by audition-only, with selections based on criteria such as singing ability, blend, sectional balance, and vocal needs for the season.

Twice per year, in January and August/September, we offer an open rehearsal and invite new singers to join us. If the group proves to be a good fit, you can then sign up for an audition slot. Auditions may also be scheduled by request throughout the year.

We rehearse weekly on Monday evenings from 7 pm-9 pm in Daytona Beach, August/September through May, and take the summer off. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled by the director as needed throughout the season. We perform 5-6 concerts each year, including our popular Christmas Concert and Pops Concerts.

The Chorale was honored to receive a $2,000 grant from the Latitude Daytona Beach Foundation for 2026. Treasurer Patty Blais, Vice President Beth Pierce, and choir member Wendy Swank accepted the award on behalf of the choir at a May 1st Day of Giving event. The Foundation is affiliated with the Latitude Margaritaville development in Daytona Beach and is supported by its residents. We appreciate their support!

While ticket sales contribute to our revenue, it does not fully cover our expenses, including salaries, music, venue rentals, and instrumentalists. A Message from Artistic Director, Dr. Adam Stich

Welcome to the Halifax Master Chorale! As a music director and educator, I believe that music has the power to unite people. Our performances, including our annual Christmas Concert and Spring Pops Concerts, are crafted to bring audiences together to enjoy the beauty and nostalgia of choral music. Join us for a concert, purchase concert tickets, or come and sing with us. Get involved and experience the warmth and musicality of this premier local choir.

Aanya Attri Selected to Sing National Anthem at Tortugas Game

Chorale soprano Aanya Attri was recently selected to perform the National Anthem at an upcoming Daytona Tortugas baseball game.

Aanya is a 15-year-old homeschool student and has been dual-enrolled at Daytona State College since the age of 10. Aanya has studied piano since age 3 and voice since age 5, developing a strong foundation in classical music and performance. She has participated in numerous community performances in both piano and voice, and competes in piano competitions at the local and state levels. She looks forward to expanding into vocal competitions and continuing to grow as a choral musician.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Aanya serves as President of two clubs at Daytona State College, reflecting her leadership and commitment to academic excellence. Outside of her academic and musical pursuits, she enjoys training in martial arts, longboarding, hiking, mountain biking, traveling, reading, and playing chess. She is the only active female member of the local chess club and has competed in numerous local, state, and national chess tournaments.

Aanya hopes to continue developing her talents while making a meaningful impact through both music and academics. She plans to pursue a degree in engineering or physics as she continues her academic journey.
